"I have asked Mr. Finlay Kemp who is a member of your Lodge to hand
you this note together with this small leather case containing a gold
coin, being a gold bonnet-piece of the reign of James V of Scotland: this
coin is of considerable interest as concerns Portree as it bears the date
1540 which was the year of the historical royal visit to the Western Isles,
and I thought it might be acceptable to your Lodge as an interesting relic
of of the past history of Skye. So have pleasure in offering the coin
for the acceptance of the Lodge - and trust they will find it worthy of
consideration.
I am not myself a member of your Craft, but my reason for making the offer
to your Lodge was, that you appear to me to be the only corporate body
or society in the Island to whom I could make this presentation and at
the same time rely on its 'safe keeping'.
from yours very truly,
J. Clifford Kitson
