5091 Company Sergeant Major Donald Cameron was born in Blair Atholl and
had enlisted as a Regular soldier in the Cameron Highlanders at Langholm
in Dumfriesshire in 1899. He had served in the Boer War.
At the outbreak of the War in August 1914 he was serving in Portree as
the Permanent Staff Sergeant for the local Territorials. He was transferred
to the newly formed 7th Camerons and went with them to France on 9th July
1915. He had taken part in many battles and was eventually killed in action
during the Battle of Arras on 9th April 1917. He is buried in Houdain
Lane Cemetery in France.
He was 39 years of age.
